Andrew's 2012 London Marathon Run

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with life changing disease which forced me to reconsider my priorities.  One of the consequences of the disease was that I put on a lot of excess weight!  To get fit I challenged myself to a number of running goals which culminated in me deciding to complete my first full marathon.

In the last six months I have completed the Sydney City to Surf (14kms), the Blackmore’s half marathon, the Seven bridges (27kms), the run for fun (10kms), the Mt Coot-tha run (10.6kms), and most recently Sunrun (6.5kms).   

I’ve committed to running the 2012 London Marathon and by completing the run I also wanted to put the effort and challenge to good use and raise money for charity… what better cause than helping kids in need.   To this end I’ve chosen, Variety, the Children's Charity. 

Variety is a national not-for-profit organisation empowering children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have special needs to live, laugh and learn. All donor funds raised are directed back into the local communities of Australia.  The great thing is the charity supports children from a diverse spectrum of physical, emotional and financial conditions:

• The Variety freedom program provides funding for mobility equipment, wheelchairs and Sunshine Coaches so that children can get out and about. Liberty Swings are donated to communities so children in wheelchairs or with various physical impairments can feel the joys of swinging— a simple pleasure that other children can often take for granted.
• The Variety Future Kids Program provides children with special needs access to a computer to positively transform not only their academic performance but also their classroom experience.
• The Variety Caring for Kids Program supports children's health services including hospitals and specialized medical equipment and services.
• Finally, Variety @ Work brings laughter into the lives of children who sometimes have little to smile about.  

Please help me achieve me goal and help me raise money for sick, disadvantaged and special needs kids. A cause that I believe is very worthwhile.
